Good morning all,
As many of you have likely heard, there has been a growing amount of discussion surrounding data centers and electric generation facilities. At this time, the County Planning Office has not been formally contacted regarding any proposed projects of this nature within Potter County. If any municipality receives credible inquiries regarding a project of this type, or something similar, please direct them to our office.
That said, the Planning Commission is using this opportunity to proactively evaluate the County SALDO and consider amendments where appropriate to strengthen our regulatory authority should projects of this scale materialize in the future. Our goal is to ensure the County and our municipalities are prepared with clear standards and procedures that protect the interests of our communities while still allowing for thoughtful and responsible development. We will continue gathering information, reviewing best practices from across the Commonwealth, and engaging in discussions with local officials and stakeholders as this process moves forward. We welcome any conversations, input, or considerations that municipalities may wish to bring to the table as we proceed with the review and consideration of potential amendments.
For those municipalities that are not under the County SALDO and have enacted their own SALDO or Zoning, I would encourage you to consider taking a similar proactive approach. These municipalities include Hector Township, Ulysses Township, Allegany Township, and Coudersport Borough. Recommended resources to consider include Penn State Extension, PSAB, PSATS, and, of course, your municipal solicitor. While there are many additional sources of information available on this topic, with varying levels of legitimacy and guidance, I would encourage caution when relying upon outside resources during any ordinance review process.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our office at any time.
Thank you all,
